From Flys Clothes To Bitches and Hos Article

For support for my paper, I decided to go with a big article called Hip-Hop Feminism: Still Alive in 2011?. It was a bit challenging to find support for my debate on how feminism and intellectualism is prevalent in hip hop, for it is so much easier to only focus on the few mainstream rappers with horrifying misogyny messages. But I found this gem. It supports that feminism can be heard in hip hop"From Queen Latifah's "U.N.I.T.Y." ("Who you callin' a bitch?") to a 10-year-old's heartfelt plea to Lil Wayne urging him to speak highly of women, hip-hop feminism has almost always been just as audible as the crass catcalls". It mostly critiques Joan Morgans piece, making it very valuable to use because it is another take on the book, which I can use in my paper to show the credibility of my thesis. This article showed me a big part of hip hop and feminism that I missed out on. There's women rappers!! Who could ever forget about MC Lyte, Nicki Minaj, Missy Elliot, or Lil Kim? Women have constantly had incredibly talented mainstream mc's since the early 90s, putting some of the overly gangster pimp rappers in their place. A good criticism of the hip hop feminist movement that Joan morgan created is used saying,But promoting and recognizing artists and lyrics that support women in hip-hop is only part of hip-hop feminism's agenda." While I am a huge supporter of hip hop feminism, it definitely has a very narrow minded way of fixing the women bashing artists that we hear everyday. She even said herself that she forgot the mention of women rappers, "I was never talking about tracks made by female artists," Morgan says of her book, which was the first to articulate the dichotomy of hip-hop feminism. " which certainly should be the first thing covered in a hip hop feminism book. It talks about how more modern rappers are born in a complete different generation then the classic hip hop artists who didn't use nearly as much misogyny as today in their lyrics. It talks about how important freedom, embracing diversity, and progressing was to older hip hop artists such as A Tribe Called Quest or Del La Soul. This was because the 60s-80s born and raised artists, were surrounded by civil rights activists and black power activists, all to push for acceptance and equality. The rappers now adays were not born around that atmosphere, hence the subject matter of rap has changed. As seen through recent times, Nicki Minaj has pushed and had almost a woman dominant subject matter, from a woman's world and prospective as talked about in this article, changing the game up in some ways. It is a longer article and since it quotes Joan Morgan directly, it's definitely the perfect article for me to spice up my paper further more. The article comes from the online black news magazine called the root, and is extremely legitimate.

Writing and Rhetoric 1 So Far

Writing and Rhetoric has hands down been the most interesting english class I have taken yet. I am so thrilled that this class focuses way more on society and it's problems and norms, rather then grammar or book reports. I feel that this class has even affected some of my general views on things, such as today (sorry this is late as hell) when we had the discussion of the environment. So many cool facts have been brought up in our engaging debates and it's simply insane to see how my class mates get so motivated and into the debates we have. One downside is all of the charisma and different characters, leads to a lot of screaming and there are times where I feel like I cannot participate or share my opinion because I will be lashed down. All the short stories we have read are fantastic because I am a huge short story fan and they are captivating stories about race, gender roles, and so much more. They are all fantastically written to, with some unreliable narration (huge fan) and the occasional curse word to make these stories seem actually told by real people and much more entertaining. If we had to read some boring "classic" literature from shakespeare again I would feel the need to shoot myself. Everything about this class has me engaged and interested and I have never had a class truly like this. I like how Ms. Chereskin lets us control a lot of what we do and never has some boring take notes sort of class. The work and essays are all very interesting because I can relate them to my life and I can finally really see not only what shapes my opinions, but how they came to be. They have given me a very good understanding of my life and myself. The amount of characters again, is something rare to come across anywhere and I truly think that this class is the definition of what Columbia College should be all about.

Daniel Tosh, the Ultimate Internet Celebrity

When I think of a celebrity with strong ties to the Internet and it’s community, Daniel Tosh pops to mind. Daniel Tosh is a cutting edge comedian whom has his own show on Comedy Central called Tosh.0. Tosh.0 is a television show that revolves around finding the most absurd, hilarious, or downright disgusting Internet videos, usually one’s on youtube. He helps bring barely watched videos to the masses, while cracking all sorts of offensively clever jokes. At the end of his show, he picks from thousands of sent in video, the best comedic short skit.

This has affected a lot of struggling actors and comedians as he helps find great youtube comedy groups and individuals, come to the spotlight. One of my favorite videos I found through his show was a sketch done by mailordercomedy. These 2 extremely talented and hilarious individuals had less then a thousand views on their videos before his show. After showcased on tosh.0, their success has been rising quickly. He shares all of his thoughts on what could be anything on the show, making fun of many sport teams and stereotypes of people. Within watching the show for 2 minutes, you already know what he is all about.

He often responds to his fans and their suggestions, through his twitter and his website. He runs on a blog, where his fans can post funny comments on certain pictures or videos. Many of the comments, he picks and chooses to put in a segment on his TV show. I deeply respect that fact that he can actually touch out to fans, in a way beyond the VIP backstage pass, which always seems to end off with a broken hearted fan getting a half assed handshake from the snooty celebrity they so loved. He lets other comedic talents from everyday people, be shown on his show

He definitely doesn’t care too much about his reputation and image as he sarcastically offends and jokes about controversial subjects every time he opens his mouth. He receives a very big amount of criticism for some of his jokes, yet he always keeps pushing the boundaries of what is acceptable to laugh at. This is extremely different from other celebrities online, who try to keep a cookie cutter image (Beiber). I think this is because he is very comfortable with himself and to be different, which definitely has impacted fans.

By reaching out to on his twitter and blog, he shows that he does like to impact people’s lives. It is extremely interesting to see in this day and age, a celebrity this active with talking to fans and putting them on his show.

The Change And Struggles To Leaving For College

Imagine yourself, stepping out of an airport. You are in a new place, with climate/weather/geography like you have never seen before. Instantly, you feel the suns rays warm up your skin, as you look out to what seems to be an infinite amounts of palm trees. Over those palm trees, a beautiful clear sky with a baby blue tint spans hundreds of miles. Only the most stuck up business man or angered old man could not enjoy this beautiful sight.

A hearty grin appeared on my face that seemed to stretch as far as the Joker's did from Batman: The Dark Night. I have finally arrived to Tucson, Arizona! Now it is time to start the next chapter of my life. I was attending the University of Arizona as a geography major, with no real aspirations on becoming a geographer, but who cares right! It's all about the parties! Let me tell you, the first month was incredible, I saw the most jaw dropping orange and purple streaked sun sets, which ignited thousands of crazy kids and beautiful women to start partying their faces off. It was absolute paradise; I almost lost touch with myself. Every day was a party, with pools and loud music that any kid would kill to experience. Yet, something wasn't right. The people here were different then from back home. They all seemed to brag about their own material goods and about cheating on their girlfriends all the time, which is nothing I would ever want to hear or do. Yet because of lack of preparation for college, I was always hanging out and never doing my work, being exposed to these horrible people 24/7 that were my closest "friends". Suddenly, a hatred for Arizona boiled up inside of me as I began to this taste the extremely dry air which was almost like breathing in sand paper. I looked towards the blue sky and palm trees, and began to see the emptiness in the sky and the chipping wood and termite infestations that took place in most of the palm trees. This place seemed fake. It is almost like a different planet from where I grew up. I'm from the cold, rude, but proud city of Boston, the polar opposite of Tucson, Arizona. Everyday started to become like a chore to wake up to, even to "perfect weather" to wake up to everyday, as I become more and more homesick. I was missing my sweet nectar that is Boston's clam chowder or the bipolar ever changing weather. It showed me that no place is perfect, and Tucson, Arizona was certainly the farthest from it. It came to the point where I couldn't focus on school anymore and stopped attending classes all together, just waiting for my escape from this place. My clothes and materials started accumulating up, creating a thick canopy that was as deep as those dirty ball pits they had at lousy McDonalds or Burger King's when I was young. There is no way around it, I was a mess. I couldn't take care of myself, simply because I never learned so adjusted to my dependence on my parents. I couldn't emancipate myself, since I never prepared for it. After forcing myself to suffer the semester out doing absolutely nothing, I finally got back home to angered parents as I had failed out. But after hard work at a community college near by and at a job, I figured out what is important for success at a college and how to achieve it. Now my second shot at leaving home, Columbia College, will not be a failure.

My 1st Post

Hey everyone I'm Luke Coorken Robinson from the beautifully angry city of Boston, Massachusetts. I haven't ever posted on a blog for my own fun, but have done many blogs posts for a class I took my senior year of high school called global leadership. I posted many opinions and potentially solutions to worldly problems.  I read only one blog called die hipster http://diehipster.wordpress.com/category/todays-hipster-beating/. If you want the hardest laugh you have had in a while, I suggest reading it.
